In one of the most prestigious showcase in the world -2015 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance-, a beautiful, luxurious, and prestigious car was announced, the Lagonda Taraf. This four-door sedan is full of amenities and equipped with any sort of eccentric features as an aluminum body structure encased in carbon fiber body panels and a massive 6.0L V12 engine, making it an interesting car to have and drive.
Resurrecting the luxury brand of Lagonda, the 2015 Lagonda Taraf is aimed to the Middle Eastern, European and South African market (Taraf translates to “ultimate luxury” in Arabic). However, it will be available in the UK. The production is for prestigious people only. As well the car is exclusively hand-build and only 200 units will be produced. This super luxury car is based on Aston Martin’s VH architecture. The reception of the 2015 Lagonda Taraf was too good, and it’s possible that in a near future more units will be produced for plenty more markets.
The 2015 Lagonda Taraf is inspired by its predecessor, the Lagonda Saloon of 1976, inheriting its wedge-shape with modern and exquisite touches.
Let’s review this amazing and stylish car.
Powertrain and Performance
Under the hood, a huge and power-hungry engine feed this beast with a massive naturally aspirated all-alloy quad-cam 48-valve 6.0 L V12 engine, that is capable of delivering 537 horsepower and 465 pound-feet of torque, of course, only if you have a heavy foot. Paired with an eight-speed automatic transaxle gearbox sits back on the rear axle and bond to the engine via carbon fiber prop shaft and alloy torque tube. The transmission is a shift-by-wire model and it’s controlled using paddle shifters and Aston Martin’s dashboard gear change buttons. The huge engine and the sophisticated transmission launch this ultra-luxury car from standstill to 60 mph in just 4.4 seconds, with a top speed that goes up to 195 mph.
A three-stage adaptive damping system offers a choice of Normal, Sport, and Track modes, so this car is a good promise in speed, comfort, and luxury.
Design Line and Interior
The 2015 Lagonda Taraf has a design inspired by the initial model from 40 years ago, showing a really advance-for-our-era design. The car is extremely gorgeous and it’s one of the best grand tourers that I ever have seen in my life. The front fascia heavenly made by the British car maker is dotted with fancy and perfect LED headlights with that classic grille from Aston Martin. Simply with a horizontal line and huge chrome detailing to demonstrate the power and wealthy at its best. The side panels are perfect and make it look sporty and agile. The rear is a truly opulent and works as a sexy example of how the rear end of a grand tourer has to be.
The luxury interior this car is quite obvious, and is one of the best cabins in the market, with plenty of cutting-edge features as a 1000-watt Bang & Olufsen BeoSound audio system with ICEpower technology, integrated connector for Iphone and Ipad, Cool Box, and the option of Lagonda badges in solid silver, 18 karat gold, and rose gold. The center console is plagued with tons of buttons, switches, and knobs. Also individual bucket seats are surrounded by a luxury bespoke interior that is built by the buyer’s preferences. The infotainment and navigation system are up front while a new rear seat infotainment hub out back.
The Bottom Line
This opulent and wealthy beast is intended for a really exclusive audience. The availability is up to Aston Martin, because the only way to get a 2015 Lagonda Taraf is by invitation.
Starting price at US$761.000.
