It’s impossible to not be excited with every single new edition Lamborghini decides to work on and launch. This time, the only difference is that expectations are higher than usual. The 2018 Huracán Performante, unveiled months ago and officially announced during the 2017 Geneva Auto Show, represents a huge achievement for the exotic carmaker.
The 2018 Huracán Performante raises the bar for Lamborghini in terms of in-depth optimization and roaring performance. In fact, what makes this supercar so special is that it supposedly beat the Nürburgring lap record for a production car, taking the place of the Porsche 918 Spyder by five full seconds, a vehicle that is a few times more expensive.
At the end of the day, the Performante comes to be the most powerful and delicately tuned version of the Huracán model, a precious supercar that gave great honors to its direct ancestor, the Gallardo.

Specs and Power
The 2018 Huracán Performante takes the same Lamborghini powerplant from the base model and squeezes more power from it. The naturally aspirated 5.2-liter V-10 engine will now generate 613 horsepower at 8000 rpm and 443 lb-ft of maximum torque at 6500 rpm. Another novelty here is that three quarters of the total power output will be available after 1000 rpm.
To complete the setup, Lamborghini added a finely tuned 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. Official performance numbers are 2.9 seconds for zero-to-60-mph acceleration and a top speed of 202 mph (325 km/h).
Let’s remember that the Performante badge is all about thunder-fast laps. That’s why most upgrades and enhancements focus on achieving this, more than brute speed. We have a stiffer suspension, around 10 percent. Conventional dampers for front and rear control-arm setup come standard but buyers can always pay the extra for adaptive magnetorheological units.
Then we have electrically assisted power steering, which comes as standard, also with the option of getting a variable-ratio setup. The 2018 Huracán Performante is getting electrically controlled AWD and limited-slip rear differential as well.
The Super Trofeo motorsport team’s knowledge base was used in this new development, being handy to make most of the biggest changes for the Performante version. Some of these changes are brand-new exhaust pipes and titanium intake valves.
We get 20-inch forged rims with Pirelli P Zero Corsa tires as standard, also being available for an extra investment a set of 20-inch forged center-lock wheels with Pirelli Trofeo R tires.
ALA for Hardcore Aerodynamics
A remarkable feature on the 2018 Huracán Performante is the Aerodinamica Lamborghini Attiva, also called ALA. This is a brand-new aerodynamics system, exclusively made for this outstanding edition.
This system is based on electric motors that control the flaps along with many other modifications, dramatically affecting the airflow from one end to the other and always depending on the situation. As a result, massive amounts of downforce are created. According to Lamborghini, ALA creates around eight times more downforce than the regular Huracán, which obviously lacks this groundbreaking technology.
The Bottom Line
Without overreacting, we can consider the 2018 Lamborghini Huracán Performante as one of the best supercars from this epic carmaker. This time, they reached new levels of enhancement, breaking a few records in the meanwhile.
The base price will be US$274,390, hitting the market this summer.
