Alfa Romeo is trying to reinvent themselves and make a huge comeback. The 2017 Giulia is their shot to do so. Alfa is bringing to the market a high-performance executive-class sedan that is getting everyone attention.
What’s also interesting is the selling goal: 400.000 units by 2018. That number can be seen as “unreal” for many. On this subject, the car was planned to hit the market in February 2016 but Alfa decided that the car needed some fixes due to safety and handling issues.
By now, the Alfa Romeo Giulia is expected to be launch in early 2017. Let’s take a look of its specs and features.
Without a doubt, the 2017 Giulia design is based on the trademark appearance. front and rear features are the classics of the Alfa cars, which could be awesome for many by maintaining the main characteristic of the car maker. We found the 2017 Giulia similar to the BMW 3-Series in physical dimensions and features as a sports sedan.
One of the priorities of the Giulia design was the weight. Many of the elements of the car are made of composite, making the Alfa really lightweight for its dimensions, at 1524 kg (3360 lb). It also has a 50/50 weight distribution at the front and rear.
A special fact of this new car is that it represents the reborn of the company. Also, the classic logo was redesigned for the launch of the Giulia, introducing it as one of the main features.
Engine & Specs
As a high-performance executive-class sedan, how I like to call it, the 2017 Giulia will feature a Quadrifoglio 2.9 L V6 Twin Turbo engine that generates 510 hp. This setup will be available for the most expensive model. Alfa will offer four other engines: Two turbocharged, six- and four-cylinders, and two turbodiesels, six- and four-cylinders as well.
It was planned that the Quadrifoglio and the 2.2 L Multijet II turbodiesel models were launched in February 2016 as the entry setups, but with the announced delay, nobody knows which ones are the first they are going to sell. It’s also known that it will feature a 6-speed manual transmission, created for the Quadrifoglio. In this subject, it’s unknown if an automatic gearbox will be available with any of the models.
According to Alfa Romeo, the 2017 Giulia goes from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.9 seconds. Third party data isn’t available yet.
As one notable feature of the technical details of the 2017 Alfa Romeo Giulia is that the drive shaft will be made of carbon fiber, representing an important reduction of weight, including in the general plan of making the car really light for its dimensions.
The 2017 Giulia will have two traction layouts available to the public, rear-wheel drive and four-wheel drive. Added to this, the tires are Pirelli P Zero Corsas, requested specifically for thew new Alfa.
In the interior of the new Alfa Romeo Giulia, we found an 8.8″ TFT display that controls the entire system. The main instrument includes voice recognition to avoid using the hands.
The luxury within is mandatory for an executive-class sedan. Because of this fact, it is odd to found an F1-style Start/Stop button on the steering wheel, which give the 2017 Giulia an exciting spirit.
The Bottom Line
The 2017 Giulia is a high-performance sedan which is trying to bring the name of Alfa Romeo back to life.
But the delay of the first model and the media’s critics about its uncanny and shady resemblance with the BMW 3 Series could represent serious trouble for the makers’ plans for the future. The Alfa’s executives told the media already that they will sell 400.000 units worldwide before 2019.
