The 2016 C63 Coupe Edition 1 is an evil beast with lavish and dominant desires. At Up and Coming Cars, we get really excited when we read anywhere “Mercedes-AMG”. And when it’s that time of the year, the German maker throws like bait the Edition 1 version to the media. Everybody goes mad.
The Edition 1 version is in charge of adding unique features every year to a lucky model selected. It goes from performance to exclusive decoration elements. How awesome is going to be the next year model?
More details ahead.
Engine and Specs
The 2016 C63 Coupe Edition 1 offers two different drivetrains setup with each trim, the base one and the exclusive S. With the basic variant, we get a turbocharged 4.0 L V8 capable of producing 469 hp and 479 lb-ft of maximum torque. The German beast with this setup goes from standstill to 60 mph (100 km/h) in 3.9 seconds. The top speed is around the 155 mph (249 km/h) mark.
In the other hand, we have the more expensive S model. It packs the same engine, this time, twin-turbo. 503 hp and 516 lb-ft of max torque are generated by this piece of engineering. For this layout, the numbers are even more favorable. It goes from 0 to 60 mph (100 km/h) in 3.8 seconds and it is electronically limited at 180 mph (290 km/h).
The unique transmission available to the 2016 C63 Coupe Edition 1 is a 7-speed automatic with four dynamic modes for enhanced driving: Comfort, Individual, Sport +, and Race. Oddly, at least for at racing-oriented supercar, there is not a manual gearbox available.
Edition 1’s Strength: Visuals
Interestingly, the 2016 C63 Coupe Edition 1 do not difference itself from the competency due to its high-performance specs. Instead, its main attractive is the visual features.
As a smart strategy, this sexy model was announced together with the 2016 Mercedes-AMG C63 DTM, which is a professional racing car. Both DTM and the Edition share important elements, mainly in appearance terms. Generally, the Edition 1 version offered every year comes with exclusive Designo palette paint jobs, LED headlights with Swarovski crystal inserts, customized rims, and many other fancy features.
The extremely hot rims have a black matte finish with the presence of yellow details as well. These unsuccessfully hides racing-focused ceramic brakes. Both trims, the base, and the S, comes with the AMG Aerodynamics Package. This high-performance pack comes with many improvements in terms of performance, like the highly competent rear diffuser.
The AMG Night package is also available as expected, mostly offering styling improvements. The S model features the exact same exterior decor of the DTM racecar. We found a top-notch Magno Selenite Gray matte paint job with yellow stripes all over it.
The cockpit features AMG Performance seats, wrapped in Nappa leather. The yellow color is still present for plenty of the interior’s details.
The Bottom Line
The C-Class was a great choice for this year’s Edition 1. We love the look of this supercar. It seems like the proper track animal, which isn’t. Production will be really limited as expected from a model like this.
Mercedes-AMG hasn’t announced yet an estimated base price for the 2016 C63 Coupe Edition 1, but don’t expect less than US$100.000. Considering it as a limited, exclusive edition with track-focused specs, it is mainly destined to bulky budgets.
