The fast, sexy, and efficient Mazda 3 is showing that it’s one of the best compact cars on the market. The versatility of the Mazda 3 is evident and was a huge success since its first appearance. Powerful setups, flawless design, and fuel-efficient engines are the features that highlight this car.
The 2016 Mazda 3 is that car intended to be an entry-level and cheap, but its features turn it into a whole different level. The sporty driving with incredible handling that does not neglect a comfortable ride was the best idea ever thought by this Asian car maker.
We might get tired of praising the Mazda 3 but it has tons of pros and almost none cons. For something, it’s one of the best-selling car and one of the most beloved as well.
Let’s review this incredible car.
Powertrain and Outstanding Performance
The 2016 Mazda 3 is available in two engines configurations. Not matter if you choose the 2.0 L inline 4-cylinder or the 2.5 L 4-cylinder, the performance is more than promising and the differences between both are unnoticeable.
The 2.0 L inline 4-cylinder is for Mazda 3i models, producing 155 horsepower at 6000 rpm and 150 lb-ft of torque at 4000 rpm. The fuel efficiency is great and either the sedan or hatchback have it rated at 29 mpg in city and 41 mpg on the highway. The estimated acceleration is rated from standstill to 60 mph in 8 seconds.
The 2.5 L inline 4-cylinder is for Mazda 3s models and gives a little bit more power, increasing the production of horsepower up to 184 at 5700 rpm, meanwhile, the torque thrives with 185 lb-ft at 3250 rpm. The fuel efficiency is affected, decreasing to 25 mpg in city and 36 mpg on the highway. The acceleration in this model is much better and exhilarating, going from standstill to 60 mph in 7.5 seconds.
Both engines are paired with a 6-speed manual transmission or with an optional 6-speed automatic while all the power is sent to the front wheels.
Design Line and Interior
The 2016 Mazda 3 is unique on its segment. It’s incredibly sexy and probably the best in its class. The entry-level car looks again like a premium car. The front fascia is modern and sharp with a sporty stance. Also the silhouette, in both sedan and hatchback, is not boring at all. Just the opposite. Looks incredible funny and attractive to drive.
In the sedan, the rear is awesome but not as spectacular as the front. Probably something to improve in future years is the rear aesthetic. The rear of the hatchback is way better; the exhaust pipes on each side are epic and put the icing on the cake.
Some things totally remarkable in the Mazda 3 are the quality materials and the design inside of the cabin. Again, unlike the competitors that have entry-level components, the Mazda 3 feels like a luxury car. The steering wheel, materials, and center dash look pricier, almost like an Audi. The infotainment system is settled on the top of the center dash like a BMW or Mercedes, which is spectacular. Nothing looks cheap or improvised.
Features like a rearview camera, blind spot monitoring, navigation system, Bose surround Sound, Active Driving Display, paddle shifters are there to mention a few, but only available in the more expensive trim.
The Bottom Line
The 2016 Mazda 3 is probably the best choice in its segment. There are incredible competitors such as the Ford Focus or the Honda Civic and the decision is about tastes and brand preferences. Something is guaranteed: an entertaining and comfortable drive with a sporty and sexy aesthetic.
The excellent fuel efficiency, luxurious cabin, and amazing price-value are enough compelling reasons to get a 2016 Mazda 3.
Starting price at US$17.845.
