Carmakers are willing to do almost anything in order to successfully promote their vehicles. These companies need outstanding marketing stunts to give exposure to their worthy models. That’s exactly what Porsche just did with the Cayenne, its best-selling SUV with over 750,000 sold units since its first launch in 1998.
Porsche took a Cayenne S Diesel unit and connected it to the Airbus A380, the most technologically-advanced passenger airplane in the world, which has a weight of 285 tons. What happened then?
42 Meters for a World Record
Let’s make clear that the Porsche Cayenne S Diesel, the model that just broke this record, packs a turbo 4.2-liter V8 powerplant that produces up to 385 horsepower. This 4.8-meter long SUV had to face a massive airplane with over 73 meters of length.
The driver, Richard Payne, drove the Cayenne S 43 meters while towing the A380, enough to break the record they were chasing. Below you will find the exciting video.
Leaving the Patrol Aside
This remarkable feat was held before by the Nissan Patrol, a really brawny SUV that was capable of towing a Russian freighter that weighed over 170 tons. This event means that the Porsche SUV is now the undisputed winner when it comes to airplane towing.
Also, it’s important to mention that the Cayenne S holds the fastest SUV record on Nürburgring Nordschleife, hitting 7:59.74 minutes on the chronometer.
