Toyota and its premium division, Lexus, already accepted the future of the automotive car industry. An undisputed proof of this fact is the list of recent and upcoming vehicles that applies hydrogen, hybrid, and full-cell technologies to their powertrains. The Japanese giant is accepting the future as it comes, greener and more conscious.
A now, after announcing the really interesting LC500, we realize that it’s going to be also a hybrid presentation, speeding the changes. While Toyota is working hard in several, huge projects widely based on clean energy, Lexus wants to give us a taste with the 2018 LC500h. We are going to enjoy the luxurious and opulent look of this amazing model with a hybrid drivetrain. A great idea, actually. But there is more.
The 2018 LC500h is more than hybrid technology on a spectacular model from Lexus. The formula includes cutting-edge technologies in other matters, which will make this luxurious car even more interesting.

Let’s take a look at all the features announced.
Hybrid Powertrain and Curious Specs
The first thing we have to say is that we can’t expect the same performance of the LC500 Coupe recently announced. No, the hybrid version will change notably in this terms and others. The 2018 LC500h will feature an Atkinson-capable 3.5 L V6, representing the internal-combustion share of the hybrid layout. This powerplant will be capable of producing up to 295 hp and a maximum torque of 348 lb-ft. We are going to get 59 hp more from the huge electric motor, which represents the rest of the hybrid powertrain.
Besides this, the most interesting fact about the LC500h is the transmission setup. This exotic Lexus is getting the Multi Stage Hybrid System developed by Toyota, which is a cutting-edge longitudinal hybrid transmission design. This means that this vehicle will have onboard two transmissions working at the same time, one CVT and a 4-speed automatic gearbox. Several driving modes will be included in this avant-garde system, which is highly similar to the Two-Mode transmission developed by General Motors, DaimlerChrysler, and BMW several years ago. One of the big perks of this system is the improved efficiency, which comes handy in a hybrid.
In this matter, the efficiency is around 31 mpg in the city and 40 mpg on the highway but only based on estimations. Also, it’s important to notice what to expect in terms of performance. The LC500 Coupe will feature a V8 powerplant that generates up to 467 horsepower. According to the maker, it goes from standstill to 60 mph in less than 4.5 seconds. This hybrid model will be, clearly, slower. But Lexus already claimed that this is going to be one of the most powerful hybrids in the market.
Design and Luxury
The 2018 LC500h is, just like the base model, an authentic beauty. It’s hard to tell any flaw in terms of design and appearance. Doesn’t matter what your tastes are, this Lexus is exquisite. We are going to find the same panels, wheels, and even tires, so here aren’t too many novelties. The differences will be told by badges and a redesigned shifter once you get into the cabin.
As expect from Lexus, the interior strikes us with luxury, opulence, and an unbelievable degree of quality. Every inch was crafted to make us feel in the most luxurious and elegant vehicle possible. The curves in the door panels are stylish and ground-breaking while the whole dashboard design represents an outstanding feat.
The Bottom Line
Just like the base model coming up next year, the 2018 LC500h represents a huge achievement from the always-satisfying Lexus. While there isn’t a price tag fixed yet, we probably are going to know more about it in the next month, at the 2016 Geneva Auto Show.
