Another year, another version of the outstanding sports vehicle from Jaguar. This beautifully designed car comes with more notable changes than in previous years, making us wonder if these changes are for good or not.
The F-Type has been a success, both in sales and popularity. This sports car is relatively affordable in terms of its segment and provides a really original feeling among many somehow generic high-performance vehicles these days.
We can see how many people argue that it remains too expensive. In fact, one of the most popular arguments is that they can buy a faster Porsche for less money, even when comparing all the available trims so far. That’s a fair argument, but for some people out there, is the Cayman more beautiful than the F-Type?
Hard to say. However, we are here to talk about the 2018 F-Type, recently announced by the British carmaker.
The 2018 F-Type represents an important revision, also affecting the power under the hood. Unfortunately, the revision didn’t come to add firepower but the other way around. We still have the V8 on the F-Type R, which produces up to 550 horsepower. But the novelty is the R-Dynamic, which will sport a supercharged 3.0-litre V6, producing up to 340 horsepower.
Nevertheless, we are also getting a limited edition F-Type 400 Sport. This one is also getting a V6 but quite enhanced, producing up to 400 ponies. To complete the setup on the production edition, we can choose between a 6-speed manual transmission and an 8-speed Quickshift automatic one. The 400 Sport, on the other hand, will be exclusively bound to the Quickshift gearbox.
Rear- and all-wheel-drive systems will be available for all the models. We can also mention the Configurable Dynamics drive-mode, included as standard for the 2018 400 Sport, allowing further optimization and performance on the track. Other exclusive elements present in the limited edition will be performance seats with magnesium frames, larger rear brake rotors, black-stylized calipers, and 20-inch wheels with a gray finish.

Visual and Technology Upgrade
Besides the engines, we are getting notable changes in terms of appearance and tech equipment on board. A revision is not a revision without getting slight physical changes in several angles. We can see a fresh front fascia, with small changes for a more intimidating look, and new LED headlights. From the sides, every looks sleeker, more aerodynamic.
The huge additions come in terms of equipment. The new ReRun feature seems interesting enough to pay attention. ReRun allows us to migrate driving data from the vehicle to GoPro equipment, making high-quality video productions for us to enjoy. The data showed goes from braking force to throttle position.
Another addition in terms of equipment is Touch Pro, the new infotainment system that comes standard. This system adds many interesting features, being one of them 4G LTE data connectivity.
The Bottom Line
The 2018 Jaguar F-Type is a discrete revision for a great sports car. Changes will not make too much noise, but equipment additions are well appreciated. The 400 Sport limited edition also represents a novelty, especially appreciated by wealthy collectors.
Base price will be around US$62,000.
