The 2017 Mercedes-Maybach S650 Cabriolet

Astonishing: a word that may be short to describe the new Mercedes-Maybach S650 Cabriolet, a high-end luxury vehicle for the most demanding segment of customers. Maybach is slowing gaining momentum after a difficult history with its competition, filled with failure and disaster.

Nevertheless, recent years have been great. Maybach’s comeback has worked better than expected, delivering sounding results for Daimler. Now, with the 2017 S650 Cabriolet, Maybach is taking a place recently hold by AMG on the top of the S-class lineup.

What can we expect? Power and luxury are two must on the list. For most people, elegance and unique style are two well-received traits for the upcoming model. Now, it’s our turn to know more.

Mechanical Specs

If a new car is replacing an AMG model, it can be suggesting that high amounts of power are going to be offered. The 2017 S650 Cabriolet will sport a twin-turbo 6.0-litre V-12 powerplant from the AMG Performance team, which will generate up to 621 horsepower and 738 lb-ft of maximum torque.

Along with this engine, we found that the 2017 S650 Cabriolet will finish the setup with a 7-speed automatic transmission and rear-wheel drive. The whole combo will take this top-notch sedan from zero to 60 mph in just 4.0 seconds. Oddly, the top speed will be governed at 155 mph (250 km/h) and not at 186 mph (300 km/h), like the AMG S65 model.

Luxury and Exclusiveness

There is something we didn’t mention yet about the 2017 S650 Cabriolet: it will be highly exclusive. According to Daimler during the 2016 Los Angeles Auto Show, where this model was officially announced, this new Maybach will be a production-limited model at 300 units, with only 75 of those being sold in the United States.

As you can see, the 2017 S650 Cabriolet is a sexy sedan: elegant, luxurious, and lavish from every angle. A lot of chrome detailing can be seen, both inside and out. Swarovski crystal headlights and twin-bladed grille that were found optional in other Mercedes models, come standard with the Maybach.

For the coloring, three different combinations will be available: Zircon red with a black top (as we can see in the photos), Cote d’Azur blue with a beige top, and Designo Diamond White white with a blue top. The wheels we are getting are the classic disc ones, which may be not the prettiest for many but are a true representation of elegance.

There is an overdose of Maybach logos everywhere. On the inside, every color combinations we mentioned before have its own two-tone configuration. As an undisputed touch of style, buyers will get a four-piece set of Maybach-badged luggage, two travel bags, and two weekenders, everything made with the same leather used for the interior of the car.

The Bottom Line

The 2017 Mercedes-Maybach S650 Cabriolet is luxury and exclusiveness at its best, like no other model we can find in the high-end market right now. While competing with top brands like Bentley and Rolls Royce, Daimler is making an extraordinary job with cars like this one.

The price hasn’t been announced yet but experts agree that it will go beyond the US$250,000 mark.
