Surprises keep going from the 2016 Detroit Auto Show, being the sexy, muscular 2017 Q60 of them. The highly worthy rival for high-end models like the Mercedes-Benz C-class Coupe and the BMW 4-series from the Japanese luxury car maker is here. It wants to steal titles and shares, conquering a saturated market.
The 2017 Q60 is pure muscle and beauty. You aren’t going to see a more stunning luxury sports car these days. This is one astonishing work in terms of design. An opulent design, we dare to say. Despite all, Infiniti is in charge of the luxury Nissan can’t provide us. So, a model like this one is a great chance to enjoy a luxury speed-devil from the same people who gave us the worldwide famous Godzilla, the GT-R, one of our favorite sports cars at Up and Coming Cars.
Let’s take a further look.
Drivetrain and Available Specs
The 2017 Q60 offers several engines, depending on the tastes and budget. The more powerful powerplant available, a VR-series twin-turbocharged 3.0 L V6 is capable of producing up to 400 hp at 6400 RPM and a torque of 350 lb-ft at 1600 RPM. Below this impressive engine, we found a less powerful edition of the same piece of engineering that will have a limited generation of 300 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of maximum torque.
Then, there is a third powerplant available: a turbocharged 2.0 L 4-cylinder engine, delivering 208 hp at 5500 RPM and 258 lb-ft of torque at 1500 RPM. In terms of efficiency, the V6 is rated at 22 mpg combined, while the smaller one is rated at 24 mpg combined.
Along with any engine chosen by the user, there is going to be a 7-speed automatic transmission with Adaptive Shift Control technology built-in. This incredible feature will allow the scan of the road and adapt the shifting behavior to it. Just amazing. We hope that works as expected. Also, all-wheel drive will be available.
Six different steering modes will be available, greatly modifying driving behavior. These modes are Customize, Standard, Snow, Eco, Sport, and Sport +. The Sport trim of the 2017 Q60 will also provide as standard the Dynamic Digital Suspension feature with several modes as well, each one proper depending on the situation.
Good Looks and Luxury
The 2017 Q60 isn’t an ordinary car. It represents a good sign of life for the Japanese car maker under the wing of Nissan. This model is extremely beautiful and features an athletic design. The actual form isn’t pure looks and sexiness. It is actually practical, in terms of aerodynamics.
At the front fascia, we found the modern trademark design from Infiniti, optimized for improved air flow and agility. The black grille surrounded by a chrome trim wants to be more elegant than sporty. The LED headlights are at the vanguard among similar rivals in the same segment.
If we see the 2017 Q60 from a side, we notice that is muscular and brawny. This coupe has guts and attitude. That’s for sure. But is at the rear end where we have to give it a price. The rear bumper delivers sharp edges with two massive round exhaust outlets at each extreme. The taillights are almost perfect of the theme of the sports car in question. 19 and 20-inch wheels are available.
In the interior, there is no lack of comfort and luxury. Every element and instrument is well-design and located smartly. The InTuition infotainment system will be offered as standard for all the trims available. A 13-speaker Bose premium stereo setup is in charge of the sounding experience inside the cabin.
The Bottom Line
The 2016 Detroit Auto Show has given us already several positive surprises and the 2017 Q60 is one of the biggest.
Definitive price hasn’t been announced yet by the maker, as the performance numbers as well.
