General Motors has introduced his new 2017 Chevrolet Cruze Hatchback at the 2016 North American International Auto Show in Detroit. In this time, the launch of the new Cruze hatchback is a strategic and wise bet by Chevrolet. Cruze is the Chevrolet’s best-selling car around the world, with 3.5 million units sold since it was presented in 2008, plus experts has said that the market of small hatchbacks has growth up to 9 percent last year, and it seems to be the right time to introduce a Hatchback segment highly acclaimed for Chevrolets and Cruze’s fans.
The 2017 Chevrolet Cruze Hatchback (based on the second-generation of Cruze), is intended to deliver a sporty little hatchback and is difficult deny that this kind of cars is attractive for its reasonable price tags, acceptable performance and striking designs. With a 1.4 L four-cylinder with 153 horsepower and 77 lb-ft or torque, the performance needed to deliver a successful hatchback doesn’t look clear in this presentation and aesthetically is good, but not excellent and appropriate to fight against established brands.
The hatchback version of the Cruze puts GM in direct competence with Ford Focus and others that bring a hatch and sedan version. The best part about this hatch is the desire of Chevrolet to join in a new segment of cars – probably in a few years, this car will be the flagship of hatchbacks -, with an excellent cargo capabilities and fuel economy.
Let’s review this awesome hatchback.
Powertrain and Performance
As a freshly presented car, few details as been revealed. Until now, we got a shy 1.4 L four-cylinder delivering up to 153 hp and 177 lb-ft or torque (same as the sedan Cruze), paired with either a six-speed manual or a HydraMatic six-speed automatic transmission. The fuel economy will be as great as the sedan leaving an excellent mark of 40 miles per gallon on the highway. GM said that the new Cruze has lightened bodies and engines that help reduce about 200 pounds off of outgoing models, traducing in probably better and snappier handling and better fuel economy.
Design Line and Interior
Aesthetically, the front end is the same found in the new Cruze Sedan. Even the roof and the rear end are the only parts changed between the hatch and the sedan. The good thing about the hatchback is that is hard to say that they don’t emanate ”the feel of having it”. In fact, the charisma of their silhouettes calls us and draws us too. The new Cruze Hatchback adds a functional and sporty design, including taillamps and an integrated spoiler just at the end on the liftgate that brings a really enjoyable view from the rear.
In addition, the interior looks sharp and cutting-edge, with an eccentric and well-designed heated steering wheel and heated front and rear seats. The leather is on everywhere, even in the console of the car with a plenty of glossy and matte black trims. Also, the cargo capacities are one of the highlights of this car, delivering up to 47.2 cu-ft of cargo space when the second row is down.
Technologically, the 2017 Cruze Hatchback features standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility to interact with your phone via the MyLink radio systems and 4G LTE with Wi-Fi hotspot with a capacity for 7 people connected to it. Available features as Lane Keep Assist, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Side Blind Zone Alert and Rear Park Assist would be present. Something innovative and new is the Teen Driver feature whose function is developed safe driving habits and offers driving statistics for parents.
The Bottom Line
The 2017 Cruze Hatchback looks a good deal for someone with roomy, stylish and sporty needs, with no expectation of a huge performance.
Starting price US$17.000 approximately.
