Thanks to the 2016 Chicago Auto Show we know that there is going to be an affordable Camaro presentation which will be totally ready to hit the track with fury. Yes, that’s what the 1LE package recently announcing is offering to the public. This new pack of improves and features raises the bar for the already impressive muscle car, this time for both engine setups, V6 and V8.
But, you must notice that the 1LE package does not upgrade the powerplant itself, instead, all the improvements aim to enhance handling and suspension capabilities beyond expectations. This way, is it a good choice? It really is. Both engines on stock Camaro models are good enough, delivering an impressive power output and overall performance.
The 1LE performance package has plenty of history with the Camaro as well, stepping up the game in past generations of this exciting sports car. So Chevrolet considers proper its return. Expect upgraded cooling for the engine, aerodynamics improvements, track-tuned suspension, performance summer tires on wider wheels, and many other amazing improvements.

As we already mentioned, this track-focused package will be offered for both V6 and V8 setups. So, power output remains the same. The V6 powerplant is capable of generating up to 335 hp while the bigger V8 onboard the SS stock model delivers 455 hp. The major change in the drivetrain would be the mandatory use of a 6-speed manual transmission, which seems appropriate for the type of use of the 1LE package.
Now, the 1LE V6 get the FE3 track suspension from the stock V8 Camaro, which is odd. Also, it brings to the deal hardcore 20-inch forged-aluminum wheels wrapped with Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 3 run-flat tires, 245/40 on the front and 275/35 on the rear. Brembo four-piston calipers on the front are included as well, just like the mentioned cooling system, dual-mode exhaust, SS-based fuel-delivery system, and a limited-slip differential.

The 1LE presents a brand new suspension for its V8 version, named as the FE4. In this case, the SS 1LE is debuting a hardcore, track-focused suspension with standard magnetorheological dampers, anti-roll bars, and springs. Below suspension, Corvette-like Goodyear tires kiss the ground. Other aspects affected by the SS 1LE (the one with the V8) are the brakes, now featuring massive aluminum-hat rotors and six-piston monoblock calipers provided by Brembo on the front end.
Visual Changes and Improvements
As you can see, the Camaro with a 1LE performance package stills a Camaro. Visual changes aren’t massive and the additions are subtle, trying to spend a few on making it more aggressive and belligerent. The sharp, cutting-edge design of the 2017 Camaro adds some spice to the formula while the interesting detailing work is the take on the 1LE pack.
A sensual satin-black vinyl wraps the hood, the rear wing, and the lateral mirrors. And inside the cabin, the 1LE package for the V6 Camaro adds a steering wheel and shift knob wrapped with suede. The SS 1LE gets the same interesting improvements of the V6 version plus track-ready Recaro bucket seats wrapped with cloth and microsuede inserts. Also, according to the maker during the official presentation, these amazing sports seats will be available as an optional for the V6 model.
And finally, a really outstanding addition with the 1LE is the interesting Performance Data Recorder platform, originally introduced by the recent Corvette. This loved tool by racing enthusiasts has several cameras that record the session and analyzes it with a cutting-edge software, delivering an insightful report about the performance on the track.
The Bottom Line
The 1LE exciting performance package should no cost more than US$4.000, which an assumption based on previous packages offered during recent years. This means that a powerful V6 model could be truly affordable for most people, starting below US$30.000.
