The 2017 Audi Q2

A month ago, during the Geneva Auto Show, Audi debuted the Q2, an interesting compact model for the city. This fresh crossover has the mission to hit hard in an already crowded market, so it counts with a series of attractive features to innovate and surprise. Is easy to notice that the Q2 is really similar to other siblings from the Q lineup, featuring that new design trend launched by Audi a few years ago.

For who is the 2017 Q2? We can think already in a crowd. Crossovers are hugely popular these days. And how they could not? This vehicle layout is successful being comfortable and practical. Some may say that it has a perfect size, actually. Now, about the 2017 Q2, there are a few key points to highlight:

  • This brand-new crossover features the innovative Volkswagen Group’s MQB platform, also present in amazing models like the A3 from Audi and the Golf from VW.
  • Standard technology will be abundant onboard, which is strange these days. Expect a lot of features related to safety.
  • The European market is going to receive a wide array of options in terms of powertrain and transmissions. On the other hand, offerings for the U.S. customers are limited.

Now, let’s take a closer look at the specs and features of the 2017 Q2.

Specs and Powertrain Available

Talking about the engines onboard the 2017 Q2 isn’t going to be an easy task. Audi is planning to launch a great variety of setups for Europe. We can start with the most basic 1.0 L four-cylinder engine producing 114 horsepower. This little powerplant will have only a front-wheel-drive layout at hand.

Another alternative to notice is a turbocharged 1.4 L four-cylinder engine with cylinder-deactivation technology that works automatically when power demands reach a predetermined low level.  This engine will be generating up to 148 horsepower. Then, we have to give some attention to a bigger turbo 2.0 L four-cylinder powerplant which produces up to 190 horsepower. The Q2 models packing this engine will enjoy exclusively an all-wheel-drive layout.

Comfort and Visual Features

What we see at the 2017 Q2 should represent a novelty. The ones responsible for this design are part of a new team, trying to create a good feedback with the latest Audi’s trends. We see how hard lines are mandatory in the front fascia design, bringing more than modernization. The LED running lights are a nice touch while the massive grille reminds us about bigger siblings in the lineup. Chrome is abundant as well.

While a lot of safety-related technologies are onboard for free, the higher trims will enjoy the best of the best in terms of gadgets. In this matter, expect to the Virtual Cockpit, which is a 12.3-inch HD display installed where the analog speedometer and tachometer supposed to be. On this top-notch screen, the driver will see important data from the nav or the entertaining system. Along with it, a 14-speaker Bang & Olufsen setup is installed. The whole platform works well with the Apple CarPlay and the Android Auto apps.

The Bottom Line: Is the 2017 Q2 for Me?

Despite how crowded is the crossover segment, the 2017 Q2 seems to be a fresh, attention-worthy alternative. It is hard to tell if this crossover SUV is the right for you when we have models like the Mazda CX-3 and the Jeep Renegade already on the market.

It depends on how faithful you are about German engineering and if the Q2 design likes you as well. The great pro is the amount of tech you are getting inside the cabin, even at entry-level trims. Prices haven’t been announced yet.
