The naturally aspirated V10 engine by Lamborghini is here again, in this time onboard of the new, powerful, and dominant 2016 Huracan LP 610-4 Spyder. The Frankfurt Motor Show was the witness of the launch of the Huracan Spyder. The brave, aggressive, and quick Lamborghini has developed for the Huracan Spyder an electrohydraulic cloth soft top that opens in 17 seconds, at speeds of up to 31 mph. That argument of the soft top is kind of pointless. We are here to talk about performance, aesthetic, and features of this awaited Lambo.
This model is intended to be the replacement of the most popular convertible Lamborghini ever built: the Gallardo Spyder, as an entry level option to Lamborghini (US$262.350, cough, cough). This car will hit sales in spring of this year. The new lightweight chassis, electronically controlled all-wheel-drive, and aerodynamic spoiler and diffuser, help to produce 50 percent more downforce to stick the car to the ground than the Gallardo Spyder. Also features like deactivation of cylinder banks during less demanding driving and stop/start technology to reduce the fuel consumption and carbon emissions are available on this model.
Let’s review this Italian Bull.
Powertrain and Performance
A 40-valve 5.2L V10 aspirated engine supply the power to this beast, with 610 hp at 8250 RPM and 412 lb-ft 6500RPM, paired with a seven-speed LDF dual-clutch transmission with shift characteristics variable via Drive Select Mode. This speed combo makes the Lambo launch from standstill to 60 mph in just 3.4 seconds (0.2 slower than the coupe), and from standstill to 124 mph in 10.2 seconds. Meanwhile, the top speed reaches at 201 mph.
The fuel economy is 19 mpg combined. The start/stop system and the fuel-saving cylinder-on-demand deactivation are remarkable features for the fuel saving and the CO2 emission decrease.
However, this supercar compared with its predecessor has got a chassis 40% stiffer, and several aerodynamic upgrades maximize the downforce from the fully flat underbody and a large air diffuser built in the rear bumper.
Design Line and Interior
Lamborghini has said it clearly that wants a pretty wide range of customization options for the Huracan Spyder. The top can be ordered in black, brown or red, and the panel above the windshield can be personalized. Also, the buyer can choose from a wide catalog of eleven colors and several alloy wheel options.
The Spyder is identical to the coupe model, with only a soft-top, engine lid, and rear haunches setting it apart as different elements. The front fascia is intimidating and sexy as hell. The huge air intake just underneath the headlights is brilliant along with the hood and the line that compound the front of the car. The soft-top and the engine’s chamber are incredible and detailed crafted, bringing a unique and visible style of Lamborghini.
The cockpit is heavenly harmonic, with redesigned dashboard and center console full of knobs and switches. A huge 12.3-inch TFT display with all the necessary info. High-quality Alcantara leather to upholster the beautiful sports seats. In addition, the interior is dotted with a lot of carbon fiber accents.
The Bottom Line
The eccentrics designs of Ferruccio Lamborghini makes all the supercars in the market bend on their knees, innovating and glorifying the brand from the start. From his dead, lots of beautiful Lamborghinis has come out, and from the skies, Ferruccio has been delighted with all the creation of the company.
Starting price at US$262.350.
