The 2016 BMW M4 GTS is a highly improved, track-focused version of the successful and popular M4 luxury sports sedan. As normal, this heavily modified version of the commercial series will feature semi-professional sports characteristics and accessories that improve in an important way the performance of the vehicle.

Unfortunately, the users outside the U.S. aren’t going to enjoy the full specs M4 GTS, due to the government restrictions, focused on safety and handling. Boring. Ahead more details of this restriction.

Professional & Track-Focused Specs


The 2016 M4 GTS will feature important improvements from the original M4, mainly based on track-focused specs. This specs will be, in the most countries, street-legal, thanks to the great effort of the German maker to accomplish this.

This car packs a water-injection turbocharged 3.0 L straight-six, called S55, that generates 425 hp at 5500 rpm to a maximum of 493 hp at 6250 rpm. The water-injection system will work as an improved cooling mechanism, allowing more boost pressure and making the driver pushing further the temperature limits.

The M4 GTS’ S55 produced a maximum torque of 442 lb-ft at 5500 rpm. Surprisingly, the M4 GTS maintain almost the same fuel consumption of its predecessor, despite the massive gain of performance.

According to the German maker, the M4 GTS goes from standstill to 60 mph (100 km/h) in 3.7 seconds. In the other hand, the top speed will be governed at 189,5 mph (304,9 km/h). It will feature a seven-speed dual clutch automatic transmission only, backed up with a smart shifting system that guarantee improved performance.

Carbon-ceramic brakes will be the standard on the M4 GTS. There are going to be two sizes of rims, with 265/35R-12 on the front and 285/35R-20 on the rear. BMW named the wheels as the “666M”.


The exhaust system is now made of titanium, which provides a unique sound and project it inside the cockpit. By the way, the cockpit will feature carbon-fiber seats and a hardcore roll cage.

Lightweight Standards

The 2016 BMW M4 GTS’ development process was all about reducing weight and improving aerodynamics. Most of the parts were replaced to improve the numbers, using more efficient materials.

Lightweight technology is now the priority. The rear seats don’t exist anymore. The doors and center console were redesigned to reduce weight dramatically. Even the interior door handles were replaced by extreme lightweight straps.


The original M4’s aluminum front hood is now made of carbon-fiber for the GTS. Several components of the body kit are made of this expensive material. The carbon-fiber rear wing was designed to boost the aerodynamic of the actual car shape without making huge modifications.

Also in the rear area, the taillights will be OLED, as BMW commits to invest and be more responsive in lighting issues.

The Bottom Line

The 2016 BMW M4 GTS is actually a beast. Official statements said that this GTS is the fastest BMW ever produced. Even the company’s numbers showed a 7:28 lap at Nurburgring, a.k.a. “The Green Hell”.

This model, according to the maker, is celebrating the M3’s 30th birthday, which is a pretty important date for automobilia. But the U.S. government doesn’t totally agree with the aggressive spirit of the M4 GTS.

Carbon-fiber seats will not be available on the U.S. market, due government regulations that don’t agree with the safety capacity of this beautiful piece of equipment.

It has an estimated price of US$75.000, not confirmed yet by the German maker. Some think that the number is too low for the profile of the car. We will see.
