Powertrain and Performance
As usual in Ferrari, plenty of power is found in the car. The 2015 458 Speciale has the Ferrari’s most powerful naturally aspirated engine, a 4.5 L V8, delivering up to 597 horsepower at high 9000r pm and 398 lb-ft of torque at 6000r pm, paired with a seven-speed F1 dual clutch transmission. These specs allow the 458 Speciale to accelerate from standstill to 60 mph in just 3 seconds and from standstill to 125 mph in just 9.1 seconds. It got a compression ratio of 14:1, and a bunch of enhancements delivering a slightly lighter engine that weighs 18 pounds less than the outgoing one. Comparing it with the previous model, the 458 Italia, the 458 Speciale gets revised combustion chambers, shorter intake runner, new pistons, reshaped intake ports, and higher lift on the exhaust and intakes valves, with a brand-new carbon-fiber manifold and airbox.
Also, the 458 Speciale boasts an incredible handling, mainly thanks to the Side Slip Angle Control (SSC), which optimizes the torque management, and torque distribution between the two wheels.
Design Line and Interior
The 458 Speciale has an incredibly sexy and sporty silhouette, dotted with all the talent of Pininfarina and Ferrari’s team. The car is pure elegance and wealth. The front fascia is just sensational with that giant air intake from side to side. The vertical elongated LED headlights along with the “gills” are intimidating with an aggressive look, and the Ferrari’s emblem just at the end of the bumper is astonishing. The hood thrives with that huge ramp. The side panels are curvy and have really dramatic lines that evoke a really masterpiece approach. The rear is created by the best members of the team, with the round stop lights and the black diffuser, making this car an authentic sports car to remember.
Meanwhile, the interior is full of top-notch material and features anywhere. The cockpit is roomy, and the sports seats are comfortable, and really sexy. The steering wheel is also a trait that differents Ferrari from other. The knobs and the buttons on it emanate a unique style developed by the Italian eternal maker. The center console is not plagued with buttons, knobs and switches. Instead, it is more focused on aesthetic intentions. Vast carbon-fiber accents are spread all over the cockpit as well.
The Bottom Line
The 458 Speciale is just another expected creation by Ferrari: a flawless super sports car. You got everything you need, performance, handling, luxury, and a really sporty behavior, totally ready to hit the track. This car is full of pros and free of cons, at least superficially visible. A shame that such a car like this got replaced.
