Good relationships must be celebrated. Or at least, that’s what Lamborghini thinks about the subject. As a physical proof of this belief, we saw a few years ago the sexy Aventador LP 700-4 Pirelli Edition. This special edition based on one of the most successful Lambo models to date was trying to honor the elemental partnership between the car maker and Pirelli, a world leader in the tires industry.
Pirelli is one of the oldest Italian companies, founded back in 1872. If we fall in comparisons, we will notice that the tire maker is way older than the supercar company. In that case, the young one is honoring the older, wiser one. Thanks to this long-time relation, Lamborghini supercars enjoyed from the best Pirelli tires in the world, specifically designed for them.
Let’s take a further look about what the 2014 Aventador LP 700-4 Pirelli Edition offered.
Powertrain and Specs
Being based in the original Aventador in production those days, the Pirelli Edition packed the same VVT 6.5 L V12 monstrous powerplant, which is capable of generating up to 700 horsepower at 8250 RPM and a maximum torque of 507 lb-ft at 5500 RPM. Along with this piece of Italian engineering, we get a cutting-edge 7-speed ISR transmission. With this setup, the 2017 Aventador LP 700-4 Pirelli Edition can go from standstill to 60 mph (100 km/h) in 2.8 seconds. The top speed is rated at 217 mph (350 km/h).
This unique speed devil features an all-wheel-drive layout with Haldex generation IV. The fuel economy is rated a 16 mpg combined. Just like the base model, the Pirelli Edition features a curb weight around 3583 lb (1625 kg), which is quite lightweight.
Design and Unique Look
In the case of the 2014 Aventador LP 700-4 Pirelli Edition, most changes occur in terms of design. The mechanics, as we already saw, maintain the base model standards. Here, the novelty is how it looks. From the exterior, this supercar is unique. Obviously, it is an upgraded version of the original Aventador, which is something that everybody expected before the official announcement.
Must know that the association between both Italian companies began in 1963. That means that this version was created to celebrate the 50-year anniversary of the association with Pirelli as their specialized supplier of tires.
Lamborghini decided to offer it in both coupe and roadster. Also, the supercar maker tried hard to make notice to everyone the true role of the tires in their lineup. You can tell we see the Pirelli red stripe going over the entire body in a slim fashion. This detailing makes an amazing contrast to all the color configurations available.
The transparent engine cover is one of the great details to enjoy in this model, just like the massive gloss black Dione wheels. The two-tone color scheme on the Pirelli Edition makes a unique chance to have an Aventador with this kind of paint job. Obviously, this version got top-notch P Zero tires.
The rest of the vehicle’s exterior remains an original Aventador. Then, inside the cockpit, the same red detailing goes over the black Alcantara premium upholstery.
The Bottom Line
The production of the 2014 Aventador LP 700-4 Pirelli Edition was highly limited, stating the importance of the occasion. Most units were already sold before hitting the distribution phase.
The price tag of this truly exclusive supercar by Lamborghini was GBP£272.616. If we convert this bulky price tag to today’s dollars, we get around US$391.122. Pricey.
